Posted on August 26, 2007 01:48

Took the bike out for a nice long ride to mark the 3000 miles. Very nice.

I got soaked today. The bike handles surprisingly well in the rain. Even with almost an inch of water on the road.

Yeah! I went all the way this time. Rode my own ride. There were a lot of bikes there (300+). Ate some wings. Went to Oz and watched some stuntin'. Rode home on the deserted expressway.

I have to thank my very lovely wife for helping me setup the suspension on the bike. It wouldn't have been possible without her help.

The bike really rides nice now! It was good before, but now it really feels awesome.

Went on my first group ride in the twisties. Three went out and one fell down.

Suspension Tweaks

Finally got around to adjusting the suspension today. We'll see if it rides any different tomorrow. New settings are as follows:

Rear
========================
Sag: 30 mm (1.2 in)
Spring Preload: 9 lines (pen click)
Rebound Damping: 2.5 turns out
Compression Damping: 2.5 turns out

Front
========================
Sag: 30 mm (1.2 in) approx. - front forks are really sticky
Spring Preload: 7 mm (0.3 in) - turned in 6x from original setting
Rebound Damping: 1.5 turns out
Compression Damping: 2 turns out

Oooh... No you didn't!!!

Went out to practice some U-Turns today on an 18 foot wide road. While leaned over on the first part of my first U-Turn (to the right), I let the clutch out a little too much (I was only going about 2 mph).

 The engine stalled with me leaned over (a lot) and the bike stopped immediately. I was too far over to recover. By the time I realized there was no way to save it, the bike was down on the ground.

Splat!

Well, actually I don't remember really hearing anything except the crack of the right front indicator lens. I looked at the bike on the ground for all of 3 seconds. I knew exactly what to do. I turned my back to the bike, squatted down, and grabbed the right handlebar and the back of the bike. Got it back up, no problem.

Apart from the cracked indicator lens, and a few very minor scratches, the bike is okay. Those frame sliders I got have now already paid for themselves. As for me. I wasn't even embarrassed. Hey, I was practicing and, that's what practice is for.

I got back on the bike and got the hang of locking the bars and making the really tight turns. I did about 25 of them without incident, and then went for a short ride to gas up.
